 Here is a follow up to my Theater at the Movies post. Looks like Chicago is getting in the act.



Go see a movie. At Steppenwolf.

Helen MirrenWhen the Metropolitan Opera of New York started simulcasting filmed versions of its operas, the venerable institution made deals with chains of movie theaters. But the National Theatre of Great Britain, which has had much the same idea, has gone a different route. Ithas set up partnerships with U.S. regional theaters, including the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company.And thus on July 13, you can go to the Steppenwolf and see Helen Mirren (left) star in Nicholas Hytner’s National Theatre production of “Phedre.” 

“The National asked us to be a part of this because of our relationship with them,” said David Hawkanson, Steppenwolf’s executive director. (The Steppenwolf production of “August: Osage County” moved to London last fall)….
